Advocating for international students and interns, I've noticed they often hear, "Sorry, we don’t hire international students; our company doesn’t have any sponsorship policy." It's surprising how many HR professionals don't understand the nuances between OPT, CPT, and H-1B visas. Are we missing out on a huge talent pool just because of a lack of understanding?

Here’s a reality check: Hiring an international student on OPT or CPT is quite simple. All it takes is an offer letter with a proper subject line, job description, and start/end dates. That's it! The university takes care of the rest. For OPT, the only additional step is accepting the OPT EAD as an I-9 document—basically the same as hiring a U.S. citizen. Is it really that hard to comprehend?
